Type species: ¤ Salana multivorans Von Wintzingerode et al. 2001.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Salana, named after the River Saale in Germany, the source of the bioreactor culture.
Valid publication: Von WINTZINGERODE (F.), GÖBEL (U.B.), SIDDIQUI (R.A.), RÖSICK (U.), SCHUMANN (P.), FRÜHLING (A.), ROHDE (M.), PUKALL (R.) and STACKEBRANDT (E.): Salana multivorans gen. nov., sp. nov., a novel actinobacterium isolated from an anaerobic bioreactor and capable of selenate reduction. Salana multivorans Von Wintzingerode et al. 2001, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also StrainInfo.net) Se-3111 = DSM 13521 = JCM 13524 = NRRL B-24118.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AJ400627.
Etymology: L. adj. multus, many, numerous; L. v. vorare, to devour, swallow; N.L. part. adj. multivorans, devouring many, referring to the utilization of numerous kinds of substrates.
