Etymology: L. adj. rubidus, red, reddish; N.L. masc. n. bacter, rod; N.L. masc. n. Rubidibacter, red-coloured rod.
Valid publication: CHOI (D.H.), NOH (J.H.), LEE (C.M.) and RHO (S.): Rubidibacter lacunae gen. nov., sp. nov., a unicellular, phycoerythrin-containing cyanobacterium isolated from seawater of Chuuk lagoon, Micronesia. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2008, 58, 2807-2811.

Rubidibacter lacunae Choi et al. 2008, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)

Etymology: L. gen. n. lacunae, a pool of water, of a pond.
