Rhodothermus Alfredsson et al. 1995, gen. nov. (Type genus of the family ¤ Rhodothermaceae Ludwig et al. 2012).
Type species: ¤ Rhodothermus marinus Alfredsson et al. 1995.
Etymology: Gr. n. rhodon, the rose; Gr. masc. adj. thermos, hot; N.L. masc. n. Rhodothermus, the red thermophile.

Etymology: N.L. masc. adj. obamensis, of or belonging to Obama, a hot spring in Japan.
