Type species: ¤ Pusillimonas noertemannii Stolz et al. 2005.
Etymology: L. adj. pusillus, very small, minute; L. fem. n. monas, unit, monad; N.L. fem. n. Pusillimonas, very small monad, referring to the small size of cells and colonies of the type species.

Etymology: N.L. n. ginsengum, ginseng; L. n. solum -i, soil; N.L. gen. n. ginsengisoli, of soil of a ginseng field, the source of the type strain.

Etymology: L. gen. n. harenae, of sand, from where the organism was isolated.

Pusillimonas noertemannii Stolz et al. 2005, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)

Etymology: N.L. gen. n. noertemannii, of Nörtemann, in honour of Bernd Nörtemann, who isolated this and various other bacterial strains that had extraordinary degradative abilities.
