Type species: ¤ Pragia fontium Aldová et al. 1988.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Pragia, named after Prague, the city in which strains of the genus were identified.
Valid publication: ALDOVÁ (E.), HAUSNER (O.), BRENNER (D.J.), KOCMOUD (Z.), SCHINDLER (J.), POTUZNÍKOVÁ (B.) and PETRÁS (P.): Pragia fontium gen. nov., sp. nov. of the family Enterobacteriaceae, isolated from water. Int. J. Syst. Bacteriol., 1988, 38, 183-189.

Etymology: L. gen. pl. n. fontium, from springs or fountains, the mean source of isolation.
