Type species: ¤ Planomonospora parontospora Thiemann et al. 1967 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: Gr. n. planos, wanderer, vagabond; Gr. adj. monos, solitary, single; Gr. fem. n. spora, a seed, and in biology a spore; N.L. fem. n. Planomonospora, a motile, single spored organism.
