Type species: ¤ Phocaeicola abscessus Al Masalma et al. 2009.
Etymology: L. n. Phocaea, a maritime town of Ionia, modern-day Foça in Turkey; L. suff. -cola (from L. n. incola), inhabitant, dweller; N.L. masc. n. Phocaeicola, an inhabitant of Phocaea.
