Etymology: L. n. oceanus, ocean; L. fem. n. monas, monad, unit; N.L. fem. n. Oceanimonas, ocean monad.

Oceanimonas baumannii corrig. Brown et al. 2001, sp. nov.
Type strain: (see also StrainInfo.net) GB6 = ATCC 700832= NCIMB 13685.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AF168367.
Etymology: N.L. gen. masc. n. baumannii, of Baumann; named after Paul and Linda Baumann, who first studied these organisms.
