Type species: ¤ Occallatibacter riparius Foesel et al. 2016.
Etymology: L. masc. adj. occallatus, thick-skinned, referring to the thick cell envelope; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Occallatibacter, rod-shaped bacterium with thick cell envelope.

Etymology: N.L. masc. adj. riparius, inhabiting the banks of rivers, referring to the isolation source of the type strain.
