Nocardiopsis (Brocq-Rousseau 1904) Meyer 1976, genus. (Type genus of the family ¤ Nocardiopsaceae Rainey et al. 1996).
Type species: ¤ Nocardiopsis dassonvillei (Brocq-Rousseau 1904) Meyer 1976 (Approved Lists 1980).
Synonym: The organism that gave its name to the type species of the genus Nocardiopsis was originally isolated and named "Streptothrix dassonvillei" by Brocq-Rousseau 1904.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Nocardia, a genus of the order Actinomycetales; Gr. fem. n. opsis, appearance; N.L. fem. n. Nocardiopsis, that which has the appearance of Nocardia.
