Nitrosomonadales Garrity et al. 2006, ord. nov.
Type genus: ¤ Nitrosomonas Winogradsky 1892 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Nitrosomonas -adis, type genus of the order; suff. -ales, ending denoting an order; N.L. fem. pl. n. Nitrosomonadales, the Nitrosomonas order.
