Type species: ¤ Nautella italica Vandecandelaere et al. 2009.
Etymology: L. n. nauta, seaman; L. dim. suff. -ella; N.L. fem. n. Nautella, the small seaman, referring to the marine habitat of this novel bacterial genus.
Valid publication: VANDECANDELAERE (I.), NERCESSIAN (O.), SEGAERT (E.), ACHOUAK (W.), MOLLICA (A.), FAIMALI (M.) and VANDAMME (P.): Nautella italica gen. nov., sp. nov., isolated from a marine electroactive biofilm. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2009, 59, 811-817.

Etymology: L. fem. adj. italica, from Italy, where this species was first isolated.
