Type species: ¤ Microellobosporia cinerea Cross et al. 1963 (Approved Lists 1980).
Synonyms: "Macrospora" Tsyganov et al. 1964, "Microechinospora" Konev et al. 1967.
Etymology: The etymology provided by Cross et al. 1963 is the following: from ellobos-enclosed in a pod.

Note: Goodfellow et al. 1986 propose to transfer ¤ Microellobosporia cinerea Cross et al. 1963 (Approved Lists 1980), the type species of the genus Microellobosporia, to the genus ¤ Streptomyces as ¤ Streptomyces cinereus (Cross et al. 1963) Goodfellow et al. 1986, comb. nov. According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Microellobosporia to ¤ Streptomyces.
