Valid publication: KAMAGATA (Y.), KAWASAKI (H.), OYAIZU (H.), NAKAMURA (K.), MIKAMI (E.), ENDO (G.), KOGA (Y.) and YAMASATO (K.): Characterization of three thermophilic strains of Methanothrix ("Methanosaeta") thermophila sp. nov. and rejection of Methanothrix ("Methanosaeta") thermoacetophila. Int. J. Syst. Bacteriol., 1992, 42, 463-468.
Original article in IJSEM Online

Notes:
1 This species includes the type strain (Z-517 = DSM 4774) of Methanosaeta thermoacetophila (Nozhevnikova and Chudina 1988) Patel and Sprott 1990.
2 Methanothrix thermophila Kamataga et al. 1992 and Methanothrix thermoacetophila Nozhevnikova and Chudina 1988 refer to the same taxon. The consequence of this ruling is that Methanothrix thermophila is illegitimate, should be rejected and Methanothrix thermoacetophila should be retained in its place.
