Methanosphaerula Cadillo-Quiroz et al. 2009, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Methanosphaerula palustris Cadillo-Quiroz et al. 2009.
Etymology: N.L. n. methanum [from French n. méth(yle) and chemical suffix -ane], methane; N.L. pref. methano-, pertaining to methane; L. fem. n. sphaerula, a small sphere; N.L. fem. n. Methanosphaerula, small spherical methane-producer.

Etymology: L. fem. adj. palustris, marshy, swampy or muddy, living in marshes.
