Type genus: ¤ Methanomicrobium Balch and Wolfe 1981.
Etymology: N.L. neut. n. Methanomicrobium, type genus of the family; suff. -aceae, ending to denote a family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Methanomicrobiaceae, the Methanomicrobium family.
