Type species: ¤ Methanolinea tarda Imachi et al. 2008.
Etymology: N.L. n. methanum [from French n. méth(yle) and chemical suffix -ane], methane; N.L. pref. methano-, pertaining to methane; L. fem. n. linea, line; N.L. fem. n. Methanolinea, a methane-producing, line-shaped morphotype.

Methanolinea mesophila Sakai et al. 2012, sp. nov.

Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AB447467.
Etymology: Gr. adj. mesos, medium; N.L. fem. adj. phila (from Gr. fem. adj. philê), loving; N.L. fem. adj. mesophila, medium-temperature-loving, mesophilic.
Valid publication: SAKAI (S.), EHARA (M.), TSENG (I.C.), YAMAGUCHI (T.), BRÄUER (S.L.), CADILLO-QUIROZ (H.), ZINDER (S.H.) and IMACHI (H.): Methanolinea mesophila sp. nov., a hydrogenotrophic methanogen isolated from rice field soil, and proposal of the archaeal family Methanoregulaceae fam. nov. within the order Methanomicrobiales. Etymology: L. fem. adj. tarda, slow, referring to its slow growth.
