Etymology: Gr. adj. megas, big; Gr. neut. n. nema, thread; N.L. neut. n. Meganema, large thread-like micro-organism.

Type strain: (see also StrainInfo.net) Gr1 = ATCC BAA-740 = DSM 15528.

Etymology: N.L. neut. adj. perideroedes (from Gr. neut. adj. perideroedes), necklace-like.
