Etymology: L. adj. luteus, yellow, orange; L. fem. n. virga, staff, rod; N.L. fem. n. Luteivirga, orange rod.
Valid publication: HABER (M.), SHEFER (S.), GIORDANO (A.), ORLANDO (P.), GAMBACORTA (A.) and ILAN (M.): Luteivirga sdotyamensis gen. nov., sp. nov., a novel bacterium of the phylum Bacteroidetes isolated from the Mediterranean sponge Axinella polypoides. Luteivirga sdotyamensis Haber et al. 2013, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also StrainInfo.net) PIII.02 = ATCC BAA-2393 = LMG 26723.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: JN699062.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. sdotyamensis, of or belonging to Sdot Yam, named after Kibbutz Sdot Yam, the nearest village to the collection site.
