Type species: ¤ Kushneria aurantia Sánchez-Porro et al. 2009.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Kushneria, from the name Kushner, honouring Dr Donn J. Kushner, a Canadian microbiologist who carried out pioneering studies on halophilic micro-organisms.

Etymology: N.L. n. indalo -inis, a prehistoric magical symbol; L. suff. -inus -a -um, suffix used in the sense of 'belonging to'; N.L. fem. adj. indalinina, pertaining to the Indalo, the symbol of the province of Almería, Spain, from where the type strain was isolated.
