Type species: ¤ Ilyobacter polytropus Stieb and Schink 1985.
Etymology: Gr. n. ilus, mud; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Ilyobacter, a mud-inhabiting rod.

Etymology: N.L. gen. masc. n. delafieldii, of Delafield, named after F.P. Delafield.
