Type species: ¤ Hephaestia caeni Felfoldi et al. 2014.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Hephaestia, belonging to Hephaestus; named after Hephaestus (Hephaistos), the god of fire and metals, the protector of blacksmiths and craftsmen in Greek mythology; and refers to the fact that the type strain was isolated from an activated sludge system treating the coke plant effluent of a steelworks.
