Type species: ¤ Halopelagius inordinatus Cui et al. 2010.
Etymology: Gr. n. hals halos, salt; L. masc. adj. pelagius, of or pertaining to the sea; N.L. masc. n. Halopelagius, salt organism from the sea.

Etymology: L. adj. fulvus, deep-yellow, tawny, brown; N.L. suff. -genes (from Gr. v. gennaio, to produce), producing; N.L. part. adj. fulvigenes, brown-pigment-producing.
