Etymology: Gr. n. hals, halos, salt of the sea; L. pref. de-, from; L. n. sulfur, sulfur; N.L. neut. n. archaeum, archaeon from Gr. adj. archaios -ê -on, ancient; N.L. neut. n. Halodesulfurarchaeum, sulfur-reducing haloarchaeon.
