Etymology: Gr. adj. halios, belonging to the sea or marine; L. masc. n. globus, a ball, sphere, globe; N.L. masc. n. Halioglobus, a marine coccus.

Etymology: N.L. masc. adj. japonicus, pertaining to Japan, from where the isolate originated.
