Etymology: Gr. n. hals, halos, salt of the sea; Gr. pref. an, not; Gr. n. aer, aeros, air; N.L. neut. n. archaeum (from Gr. adj. archaios, -ê -on ancient), archaeon; N.L. neut. n. Halanaeroarchaeum, anaerobic halophilic archaeon.
