Etymology: L. n. gallus, chicken; L. neut. n. bacterium, rod; N.L. neut. n. Gallibacterium, bacterium of chicken.

Gallibacterium melopsittaci Bisgaard et al. 2009, sp. nov.
Type strain: (see also StrainInfo.net) F450 = CCM 7538 = CCUG 36331.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: EU339196 and EU423985.
Etymology: N.L. masc. gen. n. melopsittaci, of Melopsittacus, a zoological name for a genus of parakeet, from which the type strain was isolated.
