Etymology: L. fem. n. fodina, mine; N.L. masc. n. bacter, rod; N.L. masc. n. Fodinibacter, rod bacterium isolated from a mine.
Valid publication: WANG (Z.G.), WANG (Y.X.), LIU (J.H.), CHEN (Y.G.), ZHANG (X.X.), WEN (M.L.), XU (L.H.), PENG (Q.) and CUI (X.L.): Fodinibacter luteus gen. nov., sp. nov., an actinobacterium isolated from a salt mine. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2009, 59, 2185-2190.

Etymology: L. masc. adj. luteus, orange–yellow, referring to the colony colour.
