Ferroplasma Golyshina et al. 2000, gen. nov. (Type genus of the family ¤ Ferroplasmaceae Golyshina et al. 2000).
Type species: ¤ Ferroplasma acidiphilum Golyshina et al. 2000.
Etymology: N.L. pref. ferro-, pertaining to ferrous iron; Gr. neut. n. plasma, anything formed or moulded, image, figure; N.L. neut. n. Ferroplasma, a ferrous-iron-oxidizing form.
