Ferrimonas Rosselló-Mora et al. 1996, gen. nov. (Type genus of the family ¤ Ferrimonadaceae Ivanova et al. 2004).
Type species: ¤ Ferrimonas balearica Rosselló-Mora et al. 1996.
Etymology: L. n. ferrum, iron; L. fem. n. monas, monad, unit; N.L. fem. n. Ferrimonas, iron (III)-reducing cell.

Etymology: N.L. neut. n. gelatinum, gelatin; N.L. fem. adj. lytica (from Gr. fem. adj. lutikê) able to loosen, able to dissolve; N.L. fem. adj. gelatinilytica, gelatin-dissolving, referring to the property of being able to hydrolyse gelatin.
