Type species: ¤ Exilispira thermophila Imachi et al. 2008.
Etymology: L. adj. exilis, slender; L. fem. n. spira, helix; N.L. fem. n. Exilispira, slender helix, referring to the cell shape.
Valid publication: IMACHI (H.), SAKAI (S.), HIRAYAMA (H.), NAKAGAWA (S.), NUNOURA (T.), TAKAI (K.) and HORIKOSHI (K.): Exilispira thermophila gen. nov., sp. nov., an anaerobic, thermophilic spirochaete isolated from a deep-sea hydrothermal vent chimney. Etymology: Gr. fem. n. thermê, heat; N.L. adj. philus -a -um (from Gr. adj. philos -ê -on), friend, loving; N.L. fem. adj. thermophila, heat-loving.
