Elizabethkingia Kim et al. 2005, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Elizabethkingia meningoseptica (King 1959) Kim et al. 2005.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Elizabethkingia, in honour of Elizabeth O. King, who first described bacteria associated with infant meningitis, notably [Flavobacterium] meningosepticum in 1959.

Elizabethkingia anophelis Kämpfer et al. 2011, sp. nov.
Type strain: (see also StrainInfo.net) R26 = CCM 7804 = CCUG 60038.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: EF426425 (see the note below).
Etymology: N.L. gen. n. anophelis, of/from a mosquito of the genus Anopheles, as the type strain was isolated from the midgut of Anopheles gambiae.

Etymology: Gr. pref. endo, within; Gr. n. phyton, plant; L. fem. suff. -ica, adjectival suffix used with the sense of belonging to; N.L. fem. adj. endophytica, within plant, endophytic, pertaining to the original isolation from plant tissue.

Etymology: Gr. n. meninx meningos, meninges, membrane covering the brain; Gr. adj. septikos, putrefactive; N.L. fem. adj. meningoseptica, apparently referring to association of the bacterium with both meningitis and septicaemia, but not septic meningitis as the name implies.

Etymology: N.L. neut. n. mirum, derived from mir = peace (name of Russian space station); L. suff. -cola from L. masc. or fem. n. incola, inhabitant; N.L. masc. or fem. n. miricola, inhabitant of the Mir space station.
