Etymology: L. pref. de-, off, from; L. n. sulfur, sulfur, L. neut. n. prunum, plum; N.L. neut. n. Desulfoprunum, a plum-shaped sulfate-reducing bacterium.

Etymology: N.L. n. benzoe (from Arabic luban dschawi), benzoic resin; N.L. adj. lyticum (from Gr. adj. lytikos), dissolving; N.L. neut. adj. benzoelyticum, degrading benzoate.
