Desulfobotulus Kuever et al. 2009, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Desulfobotulus sapovorans (Widdel 1981) Kuever et al. 2009.
Etymology: L. pref. de-, from; L. n. sulfur, sulfur; N.L. pref. desulfo-, desulfuricating (prefix used to characterize a dissimilatory sulfate-reducing procaryote); L. masc. n. botulus, a sausage; N.L. masc. n. Desulfobotulus, a sausage-shaped sulfate reducer.

Etymology: N.L. n. alkali, soda ash; N.L. adj. philus -a -um (from Gr. adj. philos -ê -on), friend, loving; N.L. masc. adj. alkaliphilus, alkali-loving.

Etymology: L. n. sapo, soap; L. part. adj. vorans, eating, devouring; N.L. part. adj. sapovorans, devouring soap (i.e. higher fatty acids).
