Type species: ¤ Desemzia incerta (Steinhaus 1941) Stackebrandt et al. 1999.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Desemzia, arbitrary name, derived from the abbreviation DSMZ (Deutsche Sammlung von Mikroorganismen und Zellkulturen).

Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: Y17300.
Basonym: ¤ Brevibacterium incertum (Steinhaus 1941) Breed 1953 (Approved Lists 1980).
Other synonym: "Bacterium incertum" Steinhaus 1941.
Etymology:   L. fem. adj. incerta, not firmly established, uncertain, undetermined, doubtful, dubious.
