Type species: ¤ Dehalobacter restrictus Holliger et al. 1998.
Etymology: L. pref. de, from; N.L. n. halogenum, halogen; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Dehalobacter, a halogen-removing rod-shaped bacterium.
