Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Deefgea, arbitrary name derived from the acronym DFG for Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Science Foundation).

Deefgea chitinilytica Chen et al. 2010, sp. nov.
Type strain: (see also StrainInfo.net) strain Nsw-4 = BCRC 17934 = LMG 24817.

Etymology: N.L. n. chitinum, chitin; N.L. fem. adj. lytica (from Gr. fem. adj. lutikê), able to loosen, able to dissolve; N.L. fem. adj. chitinilytica, chitin-dissolving.
