Chimaereicella Tiago et al. 2006, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Chimaereicella alkaliphila Tiago et al. 2006.
Etymology: L. adj. chimaereus, of or pertaining to the Chimaera (a mythological monster with the fore part a lion, in the hinder a serpent, and in the middle a goat); L. fem. n. cella, chamber and in biology a cell; N.L. fem. n. Chimaereicella, a chimeric cell, a cell that lies between Algoriphagus and Hongiella.

¤ Algoriphagus Bowman et al. 2003 emend. Nedashkovskaya et al. 2007.

Note: Nedashkovskaya et al. 2007 propose to transfer ¤ Chimaereicella alkaliphila Tiago et al. 2006 (the type species of the genus Chimaereicella) to the genus ¤ Algoriphagus as ¤ Algoriphagus alkaliphilus (Tiago et al. 2006) Nedashkovskaya et al. 2007, comb. nov. According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Chimaereicella to ¤ Algoriphagus.
