Type species: ¤ Centipeda periodontii Lai et al. 1983.
Etymology: L. fem. n. Centipeda, a centipede, a worm, called also millepeda or multipeda.

Type strain: (see also StrainInfo.net) LL2383 = ATCC 35019= CCUG 44586 = CIP 105322 = DSM 2778.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AJ010963.
Etymology: N.L. n. periodontium (from Gr. prep. peri, around; Gr. n. odous -ontos, tooth), periodontium; N.L. gen. n. periodontii, of the periodontium.
