Type species: ¤ Carboxydocella thermautotrophica Sokolova et al. 2002.
Etymology: N.L. neut. n. carboxydum, carbon monoxide; L. fem. n. cella, a storeroom, chamber, and in biology a cell; N.L. fem. n. Carboxydocella, carbon monoxide-utilizing bacterium.

Etymology: N.L. n. manganum, manganese; L. fem. suff. -ica, suffix used with the sense of pertaining to; N.L. fem. adj. manganica, pertaining to manganese.

Etymology: Gr. n. spora, a seed and, in biology, a spore; L. part. adj. producens, producing; N.L. part. adj. sporoproducens, spore-producing.

Carboxydocella thermautotrophica Sokolova et al. 2002, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)

Etymology: Gr. adj. thermos, hot; Gr. adv. autos, self; Gr. adj. trophikos, nursing, tending; N.L. fem. adj. thermautotrophica, indicating that the organism grows at elevated temperatures and uses carbon monoxide as sole source for carbon and energy.
