Etymology: Gr. neut. n. bruon, moss; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Bryobacter, rod-shaped moss-associated bacterium.
Valid publication: KULICHEVSKAYA (I.S.), SUZINA (N.E.), LIESACK (W.) and DEDYSH (S.N.): Bryobacter aggregatus gen. nov., sp. nov., a peat-inhabiting, aerobic chemo-organotroph from subdivision 3 of the Acidobacteria. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2010, 60, 301-306.

Bryobacter aggregatus Kulichevskaya et al. 2010, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also StrainInfo.net) MPL3 = ATCC BAA-1390 = DSM 18758.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AM162405.
Etymology: L. masc. part. adj. aggregatus, joined together, referring to the frequent formation of cell aggregates.
