Type species: ¤ Aquisphaera giovannonii Bondoso et al. 2011.
Etymology: L. n. aqua, water; L. fem. n. sphaera, a ball, globe, sphere; N.L. fem. n. Aquisphaera, a spherical bacterium living in freshwater.
Valid publication: BONDOSO (J.), ALBUQUERQUE (L.), NOBRE (M.F.), LOBO-DA-CUNHA (A.), DA COSTA (M.S.) and LAGE (O.M.): Aquisphaera giovannonii gen. nov., sp. nov., a planctomycete isolated from a freshwater aquarium. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2011, 61, 2844-2850.

Aquisphaera giovannonii Bondoso et al. 2011, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)

Etymology: N.L. gen. masc. n. giovannonii, of Giovannoni, in honour of the American microbiologist Stephen Giovannoni.
