Etymology: Gr. pref. an-, not; Gr. n. aer aeros, air; L. n. solum, soil; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Anaerosolibacter, rod from anaerobic soil.

Etymology: L. carbo, coal, charcoal and, in chemistry carbon; N.L. adj. philus -a -um (from Gr. adj. philos -ê -on), friend, loving; N.L. masc. adj. carboniphilus, loving coal and other carbonaceous substrates.
