Type species: ¤ Anaerosinus glycerini (Schauder and Schink 1996) Strömpl et al. 1999.
Etymology: Gr. pref. an, not; Gr. n. aer aeros, air; L. masc. n. sinus, a bent surface, curve; N.L. masc. n. Anaerosinus, a curved organism not living in air.
Valid publication: STRÖMPL (C.), TINDALL (B.J.), JARVIS (G.N.), LÜNSDORF (H.), MOORE (E.R.B.) and HIPPE (H.): A re-evaluation of the taxonomy of the genus Anaerovibrio, with the reclassification of Anaerovibrio glycerini as Anaerosinus glycerini gen. nov., comb. nov., and Anaerovibrio burkinabensis as Anaeroarcus burkinensis [corrig.] gen. nov., comb. nov. Type strain: (see also StrainInfo.net) LGS 4 = ATCC 51177= DSM 5192 = CIP 105408.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AJ010960.
Basonym: ¤ Anaerovibrio glycerini Schauder and Schink 1996.
Etymology: N.L. n. glycerinum, glycerine, glycerol; N.L. gen. n. glycerini, of glycerol, referring to utilization of glycerol as sole substrate.
