Algiphilus Gutierrez et al. 2012, gen. nov. (Type genus of the family ¤ Algiphilaceae Gutierrez et al. 2012).
Type species: ¤ Algiphilus aromaticivorans Gutierrez et al. 2012.
Etymology: L. n. alga, alga or seaweed; N.L. adj philosaum (from Gr. adj. philosêon), friend, loving; N.L. masc. n. Algiphilus, alga lover, liking to live with algae.
Valid publication: GUTIERREZ (T.), GREEN (D.H.), WHITMAN (W.B.), NICHOLS (P.D.), SEMPLE (K.T.) and AITKEN (M.D.): Algiphilus aromaticivorans gen. nov., sp. nov., an aromatic hydrocarbon-degrading bacterium isolated from a culture of the marine dinoflagellate Lingulodinium polyedrum, and proposal of Algiphilaceae fam. nov.
